SYNOPSIS
Why
Provide individuals who are exploring user experience design a platform to easily find relevant fundamental information
Process Methods
Discovery, User Research, IA, Wireframe Sketches, Visual Design, Testing and Prototype
Task
Develop a mobile app that generates fundamental UX Design content
Project Duration: 1week/Solo Project
DISCOVERY
Situation
Individuals exploring UX design often don’t know where to go for novice information. Search results can often be confusing and overwhelming for someone who has limited knowledge on the topics. Determining the quality of the content can also be a challenge.
Problem
Designer in training needs a way to find basic UX material because they have a hard time finding reliable resources.
USER RESEARCH
Research
Interviewed 4 UX designers in training and compiled an affinity diagram to identify trends.
Findings:
-
Most people don’t know what they don’t know. The app should provide a starting point
-
Users seemed more willing to look for information and stay motivated if they don’t have to spend time searching. In order to save time the app should offer favorites feature saving interesting content to a folder for later consumption
-
Everyone I talked to is visiting several different websites to get information. The app should act as an aggregate for UX content
Storyboard
Problem
Designer in training needs a way to find basic UX material because they have a hard time finding reliable resources.
Solution
UXU is an app that gives you one place for content. In it, you will get common terms, daily articles chosen by a UX expert, and basic information for people wanting to learn more about UX.
WIREFRAME DEVELOPMENT
I developed my wireframes several times because I constantly found myself trying to jump into creating the actual screens vs focusing on the user journey. In my wireframes, I wanted to empathize with the user's different learning/processing styles so I provided an option to read an article or watch a video.
PAPER PROTOTYPES
I developed two versions of paper prototypes, the first version was very rustic and testing revealed buttons were missing. The upgrade was much better, however, I was still tweaking screens in the final version.

NEXT STEPS
-
Simplify the content buckets to avoid people getting overwhelmed
-
Conduct more research to determine topics users are interested in
-
Add content persona for intermediate UX knowledge
-
Optimize to include:
-
a section on shortcuts for Sketch and other design platforms
-
a section that leverages social posts and features artists and designers to follow
-
